Rube Marquard depicted in his first ever Major League game.

Marquard was called up to the Giants on September 23rd 1908 after being purchased for $11K from Indianapolis that summer. He appeared in his one and only game in 1908 on September 25th. Bull Durham also pitched that day in his only appearance that year.

So, this must be a photo from Marquard’s first week in the bigs, in all likelihood warming up for his first game. Note the back references the photo being used for the first page of the Police Gazette.
