Germany Schaefer in London, 1914 World Tour

Fascinating photo of Germany Schaefer, who was touring with the Chicago White Sox for their 1913-1914 World Tour with the New York Giants, photographing the team’s mascot Nixey Callahan’s kid. The image was taken pregame at the game played at Stamford Bridge Stadium in Chelsea, London, England. King George V was present for the game.

Note Schaefer, know as something of a clown, farcically using what appears to be a telescopic lens to take the portrait. It is likely a Naturalist Graflex camera.

Also of note is the period Underwood & Underwood London stamp. This image from their satellite office there. It had been buried under a modern Bettman Archive sticker.
