Boston Red Sox at Univ. of Illinois, 1913

Wonderful shot of the Boston Red Sox barnstorming at the University of Illinois in Champaign in 1913 on their way back from Spring Training. They played several games, and this photo was taken on April 5th, the last game in the series. The Red Sox drilled the Illini that day, so much so that they had to loan Joe Wood to the Illini to pitch from the 4th inning on. While it is possible the Illini pitcher is Wood, based on examination of the uniform is unlikely. Still a great shot featuring the reigning World Champions.
