1915 World Series, Game 1 Baker Bowl

This shot by Underwood & Underwood is reminiscent of Bain’s earlier coming on the field shots from the 1911 and 1912 World Series. This one was taken as the Red Sox walked on the field prior to Game 1 of the World Series at the Baker Bowl in Philadelphia to take on the Phillies.

The Red Sox team physician, Alfred A. Clift, is seen at far left carrying his satchel. This photo was part of his personal collection as well as the three 1909 Huntington snapshots which are also in The Chapman Deadball Collection. Speaker is shown at far right. Shore is to his left and is wearing the coat he is shown wearing in the known photos of him and Grover Alexander. Vean Gregg is to his left and two to Gregg’s left is the backup catcher Pinch Thomas. Simply a terrific image as the Red Sox in their assorted sweaters saunter onto the field. Also a nice close up of the Baker Bowl which is not often depicted during this era.
