After the 1913 Major League season, and before they embarked their overseas World Tour in 1913-1914 the New York Giants and Chicago White Sox barnstormed their way across the country for a series of games.
This image was taken in Blue Rapids, Kansas on October 24, 1913 and shows the teams parading through town prior to the game. The Chicago White Sox are in the foreground and the New York Giants in the background. The White Sox are wearing their jackets, while the Giants don their sweaters.
Particularly interesting about the back of this postcard it was postmarked days later from Blue Rapids and was sent by a member of the marching band depicted on the front. Vladimir, the sender, has signed his name on back and placed an “X” and “Me!” with a line to him marching on the front. He also notes the general excitement about the game within the town and that he met the players and shook hands with Jim Thorpe.
There are actually two RPPCs which used this image, this one which is cropped to show more of the left side and one that shows a few more members of the New York Giants at the right edge.
