After the 1913 Major League season, and before they embarked their overseas World Tour in 1913-1914 the New York Giants and Chicago White Sox barnstormed their way across the country for a series of games.
This image depicts the White Sox bench just prior to the game during warmups. The Giants and White Sox recruited players from other teams to join them on the tour. As an example, here we see Hall of Famer Detroit Tigers Sam Crawford walking towards us while wearing his Chicago uniform. Also note the automobiles ringing the outfield. As the newspaper account below relates, a few balls were lost in the line of cars and resulted in home runs.
