1908 Cy Young portrait

One of the best images of Young from late in his career. This image is from 1908 based on the jersey, note the “Boston” printed on the red sock on Young’s jersey along with the crisscross lace enclosure. The back tells us this image came from the archives of the Chicago Daily News. Almost no images have escaped from this archive, so this print is a great rarity. The original negative for this image resides in the Chicago History Museum.

This artwork was published in the August 30, 1929 edition of the Chicago Daily News with slight edits to the artwork. In all likelihood they brought this 1908 image from their archive to produce this piece.
